Building Pathways

Military

Some students choose to join the military to serve their country, to gain experience for a future civilian career, to help pay for college, to honor a family tradition--some join right after high school, others through their colleges (ROTC and Military Academies). Military service can be part-time or full-time.

ASVAB

The ASVAB is a vocational aptitude placement exam offered by the Armed Services to all students, required of all Armed Services applicants. Typically offered at BHR each spring, it measures verbal, math, technical (electronics, automotive, tool terminology, shop practices, mechanical principles) and spatial aptitudes. This information can be useful in helping to choose careers and college majors, as well as determining your military role if you enlist. Taking the ASVAB does not commit you to military service.

ROTC

Reserve Officers Training Corps--from the website “The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) is a college program offered at more than 1,700 colleges and universities across the United States that prepares young adults to become officers in the U.S. Military.

In exchange for a paid college education and a guaranteed post-college career, participants, or cadets, commit to serve in the Military after graduation. Each Service branch has its own ROTC.”
